You turn 62 this year. Some musicians I’ve spoken to in their early 60s have felt a need to accelerate their output and take creative chances they’ve previously avoided. Does that hold true for you?
No. Sometimes I slap myself in the morning say “Wow, I got up again!” [laughs] So, I don’t think about that stuff. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to get back on track after separating from my wife. I was really uprooted. It really punched a big hole in everything and I’m crawling out of it. I’m still playing catch up. If I was caught up, I might be more inclined to focus on what you describe. In general though, I’m interested in doing something gnarly. I want to make music with a few less left turns and focus more on the energy side of the equation, rather than just the harmony stuff. I want the music to be more aggressive than the last studio album. Let’s see what happens. | You turn 62 this year. Harnessing momentum (Innerviews 2008)
