This Is British Progressive Jazz (album)
UNRELEASED ALLAN TRACK FROM 1973.
British Progressive Jazz, an independent record label, have released the sampler album "This Is British Progressive Jazz", which contains a previously unreleased live version of "British Rail", featuring Allan with Pat Smythe's band. For fans of early Allan, this is required listening. This was recorded after the Tempest album, but some time before "Bundles". Nevertheless, it sounds a lot like Soft Machine, which of course has something to do with John Marshall playing the drums. Allan plays two solos on this extended track. His guitar sounds quite similar to "Bundles", and his phrasing is free and flowing. You can buy the track digitally, and there's even a CD, which I'm guessing is a very limited edition. You can stream the track for free on the Bandcamp page. Enjoy!
