"Belladonna" is a 1972 album by English jazz musician Ian Carr, that features Allan on guitar. It is sometimes credited to Nucleus, which was Carr's band, where a lot of talented musicians passed through. Allan recorded this album soon after moving to London in 1972. His style was still in formation. Here, he mostly plays fairly traditional rhythm guitar and fills throughout, even experimenting with a wah-wah pedal in places. He notably plays a blistering solo on the track Hector’s House. His style is recognizable, but still raw. His sound is also raw, a far cry from the sophisticated use of distortion that he would come to gain recognition for. The music is “proto-fusion”, and the band lineup includes Gordon Beck and Roy Babbington. The album was produced by Jon Hiseman, who would go on to recruit Allan for the band Tempest.
