Variation and Creation: The Story of PAZ

PAZ COMPILATION FEATURING ALLAN

Jazz In Britain is releasing a triple CD+digital album with PAZ called “Variation and Creation: The Story of PAZ”, featuring Allan on three tracks. The tracks are:

  • “Dream Sequence”, taken from a 1981 BBC session, previously released on “Love In Peace” (CD) and “Into The Archives” (Vinyl).
  • “They Speak For Themselves” & “Here And There”, taken from the 1981 BBC session, previously released in digital format only.

Allan does play a rather subordinate role on these recordings, there are no pyrotechnic guitar solos. There are some very recognizable volume pedal chords on “Dream Sequence”. This is at present the only chance to buy these tracks on CD, AFAIK. Collectors beware!

"Variation and Creation: The Story of PAZ" is a three CD album containing archival material by the British group PAZ, being released in January 2025. As of December 2024, we do not know to what extent the album will contain any previously unreleased Holdsworth material. The release notes state: "avoiding recordings which had been released on PAZ CDs and concentrate on tunes that are not on any of those albums but either unreleased or had only featured on broadcast sessions."

Allan has appeared on two rare previous releases with PAZ, both in a very subordinate role. It is not clear wether the new album will contain any material at all from those two releases. But we expect Allan's performance to be in line with the previous albums.
